Oil refinery explosion rattles homes

PARAMOUNT, Calif. The blast was at /*Paramount Petroleum*/ just before 10 p.m., when a pair of furnaces about 100 feet high was relit.

Authorities say a buildup of gas caused the explosion.

One worker was hurt, but not seriously, and there were no flames or leaking fumes.

A number of people told Eyewitness News their homes shook with the force of the blast, but no one had to be evacuated.

Damage to the refinery is estimated at $800,000.
