11 Trojans taken in NFL Draft

NEW YORK The group was led by Quarterback Mark Sanchez who was selected fifth overall by the New York Jets.

Sanchez threw for 3,965 yards and 41 touchdowns for the Trojans last year. He will now have the task of replacing Brett Favre for a Jets team that went 9-7 last year.

Three USC linebackers were also selected Saturday, two were selected in the first round. Brian Cushing will now be calling Houston home, after being selected by the Texans as the 15th pick. Clay Matthews was selected by the Green Bay Packers with the 26th pick.

Linebacker Rey Maualuga was selected in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals with the 38th pick. Defensive tackle Fili Moala was selected near the end of the second round with the 56th pick by the Indianapolis Colts.

Day 2 Selections:

  • Patrick Turner, WR - Round 3 - Miami Dolphins
  • Kaluka Maiava, OLB - Round 4 - Cleveland Browns
  • Kyle Moore, DE - Round 4 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • David Buehler, PK - Round 5 - Dallas Cowboys
  • Cary Harris, CB - Round 6 - Buffalo Bills
  • Kevin Ellison, S - Round 6 - San Diego Chargers
  • USC had the most selections in the draft than any other NCAA school. No players from UCLA were selected in this year's draft or any other Southern California school.
