Sexual assault suspect to appear in court

April 28, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
A man suspected of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in North Hollywood is due to appear in Van Nuys Municipal Court Wednesday. Meanwhile, the LAPD released photos of Edgar Valesquez, 26, in the belief that there may be other victims who can come forward and identify him.

Investigators say on March 26 Velasquez kidnapped a 24 year-old woman after hiding in the back seat of her unlocked car near the corner of Kittridge Street and Lankershim Boulevard. They say he then drove her to an abandoned apartment building near Kester Avenue and Sherman Way, where he sexually assaulted her.

Detectives used fingerprint evidence to identify Velasquez, and arrested him on April 15. He was booked for kidnapping, sexual assault, and residential burglary, and is currently being held without bail.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim, or has information on the case, is asked to call LAPD detectives Crawford or Clifford at (818) 623-4090, or call the LAPD 24-hour number (877) LAPD-247.
