RIVERSIDE, Calif. --
Caltrans is reminding motorists not to throw trash out of the car onto the highway.Last year alone, Caltrans
picked up enough highway debris to fill 11,000 trucks.
Caltrans says picking up all that trash is expensive to taxpayers.
Terri Kasinga, of Caltrans said the agency spent over $57 million to clean up littering along the state's highways.
Caltrans says the fine for dumping trash out of your vehicle window can be up to $1,000.
