One dead in liquor store crash

COMPTON, Calif. The Toyota Camry smashed through the front of the store around 2:15 p.m. and came to rest almost entirely inside the building, located at Central Avenue and Compton Blvd.

Witness Ricky Finley said the car went out of control as it tried to avoid another vehicle.

"This gold car (referring to the Camry) was going south on Central and there was a black Acura or Honda that made a left turn off of Central to go west on Compton," Finley said.

"He tried to avoid the car, and as a result he lost control of his steering and went into the store."

The other vehicle has not been located.

Sheriff's investigators are calling it an unfortunate accident. They have not announced the cause, but they say alcohol or drugs were not involved. The driver was questioned, but not arrested.

The deceased victim was a woman who has not yet been identified, and it's not yet clear whether she was a pedestrian or a customer in the store.

The two injured people were hospitalized in unknown condition.
