Riverside fugitive nabbed through MySpace

RIVERSIDE, Calif. /*Vanesa Michelle Mihajson*/, 20, is accused along with her brother Sean Mihajson of killing Shalonda Morris in October, 2007. Vanesa Mihajson spent six months on the run before investigators located her in North Carolina by tracking her /*MySpace*/ page.

Prosecutors say on October 12, 2007, the Mihajsons set up a drug deal with Morris, arranging for her to meet Sean Mihajson at his Palm Desert condominium. At that time, prosecutors allege, the Mihajsons murdered Morris, took her money, and fled the area.

Sean Mihajson was arrested a short time later. He is currently awaiting trial for murder with special circumstances of lying in wait and robbery.

In November, 2008, a $1 million warrant was issued for the arrest of Vanesa Mihajson. In February of this year, she was placed on Riverside County's most wanted fugitive list.

District Attorney Senior Investigator Mike Petti located Mihajson's MySpace page, which provided clues that led him to pinpoint her location in Havelock, North Carolina. Police in Havelock arrested Mihajson last month and she was extradited to California.

"Riverside County is fortunate to have skilled and innovative investigators like Mike Petti committed to tracking down those who may seek to avoid justice," said Riverside County District Attorney Rod Pacheco in a written statement.

Vanesa Mihajson was arraigned Tuesday on one count of murder with special circumstances of lying in wait and robbery. The special circumstances could make her eligible for the death penalty, if convicted. Mihajson is being held without bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
