Foul play suspected in missing woman case

May 13, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
An El Monte woman has been missing for five days, and police suspect foul play in her disappearance. Maria Chavez, 39, was last seen Thursday night leaving an indoor swap meet in the 4700 block of Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles, where she worked.

Investigators are not saying why they suspect foul play, only that her disappearance is suspicious. They are asking for the public's help in finding her.

Chavez is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, approximately 160 pounds, with curly black hair and eyeglasses. She was driving a 1998 four-door Honda Accord, grey or champagne in color, with California license plate number 5HPL503.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to Sgt. Jeff Cochran with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at (323) 890-5635, or Detective S. Blagg at (323) 890-5584.
