'Slumdog' stars' homes destroyed

Their little faces lit up the big screen and they helped "Slumdog Millionaire" to eight Oscars and $326 million in box office sales. But Wedneday two of the stars lost their shanty homes.Officials in Mumbai are clearing slum homes for new development.

Nine-year-old Rubina Ali, who played the young Latika, watched as workers demolished the home she shares with her father and step-mother.

Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, 10, had his home torn down last week.

Ali's father was beaten by ten policemen with their sticks just before the demolition began.

"Slumdog's" director and producer offered to rent the families apartments while they search for a permanent home.But both families declined, preferring to stay rather than move to a temporary home.
