Beaches get busy over Memorial Day weekend

PLAYA DEL REY, Calif. This year many Southern Californians are taking road trips, even though gas prices are going up. Gas is still much cheaper than it was on /*Memorial Day*/ weekend last year.

RV travel is also much more affordable and allows families to take a trip without spending a lot of money. The idea of saving while getting away is quite popular due to the slumping economy. Many people are trying to be careful with their cash.

"There are a lot of folks that are independent. And they like to be on their own. They prefer to be in the great outdoors, but they like the ability to have the facilities of a hotel without actually staying in a hotel," said Dave Cavano, Auto Club.

Some businesses rented out all the RVs they had in their lots over the Memorial Day weekend.

Many families say it's great to be able to just pick up some food, cook and relax.
