School bus rides to get longer

LOS ANGELES Proposed state budget cuts would trim $62 million from the city's school transportation fund.

The L.A. Times reports school officials are warning that could mean fewer buses, as well as rides of up to 90 minutes each way for some students.

School officials are also considering changing the acceptable walking distance to school from 2 to 3 miles. That would eliminate the need for bus transportation for thousands of students.
