Malibu to enforce tax on home rentals

MALIBU, Calif. According to the L.A. Times, the law has been on the books for years, but was never enforced.

Starting July 1, Malibu will press its property owners to collect the tax to help the city raise revenue.

Many people rent out their beachfront homes during the summer.

The 12 percent tax applies to homes, condos, or other structures that will be rented for 30 days or less. Landlords who rent out their homes must also register with the city.
