Teacher dies in Moreno school lot

MORENO VALLEY, Calif. Investigators say 58-year-old Sandra Szot of Moreno Valley was found her in her vehicle around 12:20 p.m. They say she was unconscious and had a bleeding nose.

Szot was pronounced dead at /*Riverside County Medical Center*/ shortly afterward, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's Department investigators had originally called the death suspicious, because a fight among students had been reported just before Szot's body was discovered.

Investigators now say the teacher was not breaking up the fight with students when she died, as it was originally reported. In fact, they stated that her death had nothing to do with the fight.

Deputies say they first arrived at the school before the altercation escalated. They cleared students from the area and detained one person for a short time. Following the fight, deputies again responded to the school after getting a call on Szot.

The teacher was a longtime staff member at Moreno Valley High.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Moreno Valley Police Department, School Resources Unit at (951) 486-6900, or (951) 247-8700 after business hours and on weekends.
