Officer foils armed robbery in progress

RIVERSIDE, Calif. Officer Tim Carr was working uniformed patrol around 1:45 a.m. when he spotted a male suspect grappling with a clerk inside a 7-Eleven in the 8700 block of Indiana Avenue.

As the scuffle spilled out into the parking lot, Officer Carr noticed a female suspect armed with a handgun attempting to join the fray.

Carr radioed for backup, and pulled into the parking lot. As he did, the female ran back into the store. Carr parked his police car between the two men and the front of the store to provide cover in case the female began shooting.

Carr commanded the 17-year-old suspect to stop fighting and took him into custody. As a juvenile, his name has not been released.

As other officers arrived to assist Carr, the female suspect exited the store unarmed. She was taken into custody and has been identified as Jessica Pruitt, 22, of Perris.

A search of the store turned up the handgun she was believed to be carrying.

Pruitt was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside. The male suspect was booked into Riverside County Juvenile Hall.

The clerk was not injured.
