Standoff ends with no suspect in sight

ARCADIA, Calif. Police said the standoff started just before 11 p.m. Sunday on the 1700 block of Mayflower after a call of a man threatening three people with a gun.

The suspect was reportedly holed up with his girlfriend and some other family members.

Police said they made brief contact with him, but then refused to talk to police.

Neighboring homes were evacuated as the standoff continued for more than seven hours.

Authorities gained entry to the home shortly before 6:30 a.m., but did not find the suspect or hostages.

Officers said there was an elderly man inside the home, and he walked out on his own. He has been taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police are unsure how the alleged suspect got away, but they are also looking into the possibility that it was all a hoax.
