Find workout gear bargains on Web

June 22, 2009 12:00:00 AM PDT
Beth Moore has been a runner for 18 years, but she says she didn't always feel like she was born to run. Now that she's developed the passion, she looks for ways to make her experience even better."That's why I started Traxee. That's really what the Web site is all about, a way for women who want to talk about their experience of running to connect," she said.

There is a lot of information on the Web on training and losing weight, but Moore said something was missing.

"There wasn't a lot out there about the real spirit behind women runners and why we get involved in the sport in the first place," she said.

Through her online connections, Moore found other Web sites like roadrunnersports.com and athleta.com to locate necessary fitness gear.

Moore said her favorite is shopittome.com, a Web site that acts much like a sale portal, allowing you to see what's on sale and choosing only your favorite brands in your size.

Log on, set your size and brand preference, they'll send you so-called sale mail to alert you.

"ShopItToMe is the kind of service where you tell the site exactly what it is you want to find, and it lets you know when that price is rock bottom," Moore said.

Shoppers can save about 35 percent on running clothes on average and 33 percent on running shoes on average, which is helpful as athletic shoes can be pricey.

Typically manufacturers will change the shoe's model just once a year, but the style and the color twice a year. That's when you want to shop for a bargain.

When they release a new model, retailers are trying to dump the past inventory.

Other ideas include buying more than one pair to use for later and keeping an eye out for "friends and family sales" or "seasonal sales," which provide even more savings.

As like regular fashion, sportswear styles typically change in spring and fall.
