Gunman opens fire on Cudahy councilman

MAYWOOD, Calif. Police said Councilman Osvaldo Conde, 48, and his brother Erik, 28, were chasing a group of taggers fleeing in a Nissan Altima on Monday night in Maywood at about 10:30 p.m.

The pair was following the taggers for about two miles to try to get a license plate number after they had vandalized the councilman's liquor and meat store.

At an intersection just a block from the police station someone in the Nissan signaled to a man on the street who fired on the SUV and hit it in several places including the windshield, doors and steering wheel.

Conde's SUV was hit by at least seven bullets, and his brother was hit in the shoulder. He was not seriously wounded.

No one has been arrested in the shooting.
