Couple gets stranded on Ferris wheel

LONG BEACH, Calif. The ride got stuck, leaving the man and woman stranded at the top for about 45 minutes Monday night.

Operators of the attraction near Pine Avenue and Shoreline Drive tried everything to get the Ferris wheel going again, but it took city firefighters to complete the rescue.

They used one of the fire department's ladder trucks with a basket attached to the top to maneuver into place some 60 feet in the air.

The man and woman on the ride were able to step into the basket and were brought down to the ground safely and uninjured.

A crowd of people who watched the rescue cheered and applauded the firefighters for a job well done.

Investigators were trying to determine what caused the malfunction in the Ferris wheel.
