BELL, Calif. --
The Bell Shelter, also known as the largest homeless shelter west of the Mississippi River, unveiled new transitional housing for homeless people and veterans Thursday.Nine new modular transition homes will be home to 54 homeless people, nearly half of whom are veterans.
The Salvation Army says it has seen an increasing need for veteran housing, especially for those returning from Iraq.
With the financial support of a number of agencies, The Salvation Army built the units in the city of Bell. Officials say they also have plans for additional homes as funds become available.
