O.C. Good Samaritan critically injured

FULLERTON, Calif. The unidentified man spotted a woman standing in traffic on West Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton Monday morning. It appeared she was trying to kill herself by getting in the path of oncoming cars. According to witnesses, he man went into the street to get the woman and escort her to safety. As he did, a police car arrived. When the man went back across the street to talk to the officer, he was hit by a car. His injuries were described as extremely critical, and he was to undergo potentially life-saving surgery at /*U.C. Irvine Medical Center*/ on Tuesday.

The woman was taken to Anaheim Memorial Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

The driver of the car that struck the man was not arrested or cited. The accident remains under investigation.
