L.A. neighborhood eyesore demolished

LOS ANGELES The Montclair car wash on West Adams Boulevard, a few blocks east of Crenshaw, has been abandoned for years. City Councilman Herb Wesson says it has been a blight on the area, attracting gang activity and violence. On Sunday, several residents gathered and applauded as it was torn down.

"It is a red-letter day," said Leslie Lambert of the /*Community Redevelopment Agency*/ of Los Angeles, "This is just the beginning, this site will be redeveloped as something that will be beautiful and an asset for the community."

Plans for development of the site are on hold for the time being, due to the poor economy, but are expected to be revived in the future.
