SoCal pursuit driver collides with plane

EL CAJON, Calif. That's what happened in El Cajon Tuesday, when a man leading police on a high-speed pursuit slammed into a plane at El Cajon's /*Gillespie Field*/ airport. The plane, it probably goes without saying, was on the ground at the time.

El Cajon police say Patrick Ray, 35, was in a stolen car when an officer pulled him over for speeding. As the officer got out of his patrol car, Ray took off, hitting speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, police say.

At one point, Ray lost control of the car, crashed into the plane breaking one of its wings, and then kept going into a hangar where a vintage plane and antique car being stored were also damaged.

Police eventually found Ray hiding in the hangar. He was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash, and was arrested on suspicion of car theft and felony evading.

No one else was hurt in the crash.
