Amber Alert ends with officer shooting

LONG BEACH, Calif. Long Beach police say officers shot and wounded 29-year-old Angel Samos as they tried to arrest him Sunday.

Police Monday said Samos is recovering in a hospital from a head wound and is expected to survive.

Police suspect the man of raping his ex-girlfriend in South Los Angeles, shooting another woman during a carjacking, and kidnapping four children, including two of his own, in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Officers said Samos tried to run from officers while holding a gun, but ran toward detectives, and one of them shot him.

It's not clear if Samos fired his weapon.

Authorities had issued an Amber Alert for Samos and the children, who were all found unharmed.

City News Service and the Associated Press contributed to this report.
