Cool Kid helps the kids in her community

HARBOR CITY, Calif. /*Erica McBride*/ is a Cool Kid who gives so much of herself to help the young people of her inner city community. Working with the Boys and Girls Club, Erica wants them to know they have a safe and fun place to be.

"Why else would I want to be out on the streets, trying to join a gang, going smoking, doing something I'm not supposed to do when I have a whole family here and they're behind me 100-percent," said Erica.

With college and a medical career ahead, Erica still has her neighborhood in mind.

"It's good for me to come back to my community and spread what I know, to help them get out of this community and become a better person," said Erica.

She stands as a shining example, even while overcoming personal hardships.

"Yet, she's been able to see the best and learn the best in everything and being able to pass it on to the other kids. That's what's amazing to me. She's a great role model," said Michael Herrera, Boys and Girls Club.

Whether playing games or teaching lessons, Erica feels that she is the one who gets the great reward.

"It's more than happy. It's more a feeling of mission accomplished," said Erica.

Bringing happiness and help to her community, Erica McBride is our "/*Cool Kid*/."
