Firefighters: La Verne fire is arson

CLAREMONT, Calif. The fire started shortly before 5 p.m. in a drainage area of the Marshall Canyon Golf Course above the 210 Freeway.

The fire burned for about five hours before being fully contained. Authorities said the fire had multiple ignition points.

Firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading to three nearby homes, said Capt. Mike Brown of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

As a precaution, the golf course was under a voluntary evacuation. There were no reports of any injuries.
