Abducted children found in Compton

NORWALK, Calif. Authorities located the kids, who appeared to be in good shape, at around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Rosecrans and Atlantic in Compton Tuesday. The kids underwent medical evaluations as a precaution and were reunited with their parents Tuesday evening.

Police said a man left a 2-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy inside his blue 2005 Toyota Scion while he ran in to the dry cleaners, but when he came back out, the car had been stolen.

The girl, whose name is Sheryl Lynn Vasquez, was wearing a pink shirt with flowers and white shorts with dots. The boy, Noel Vasquez, was wearing a white shirt and red Spiderman shorts.

The suspect was described as a male with a shaved head, who was wearing a white shirt and dark shorts.

The abduction happened on Tuesday afternoon in the 14000 block of Pioneer Blvd.

"We learned that the father had pulled into the dry cleaners and went inside, and left the vehicle running with two small children inside," said Captain Patrick Maxwell, L.A. County Sheriff's Department. "An unknown suspect took the vehicle and left the location."

Officials say the windows were tinted so they don't believe the suspect knew children were in the car.
