Head-on crash in Wilmington closes PCH

WILMINGTON, Calif. Emergency crews were called to PCH and Figueroa Street at about 5:50 a.m.

Police say the driver of the car crossed over a double line into oncoming traffic. That driver, described as a woman in her early 40s, was killed in the crash. The occupants of the garbage truck complained of pain but were not seriously hurt. The crash left PCH shut down for a few hours, but it has since reopened. It's not clear why the driver crossed over to the wrong side of the road.
