2 women sexually assaulted in Long Beach

LONG BEACH Investigators say the man attacked the women within hours of each other. Both women were kidnapped in the area of Cherry Avenue and Anaheim Street in Long Beach.

Authorities say the suspect drove up next to the first victim around 10 p.m. Tuesday as she was walking along the street. He forced her into his SUV at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted her inside the vehicle. When he later stopped the vehicle in Wilmington, the woman escaped.

Hours later, around 3 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect approached another woman in the same area. He ordered the woman into his vehicle at knifepoint and sexually assaulted her. He then drove to Rancho Dominguez where she was able to jump out and run away.

Police say the man chased the woman, grabbed her purse and took off.

/*Long Beach police*/ have released a composite sketch of the suspect. He's described as Samoan or African-American between 25 and 35 years old. He is 5 feet 10 inches and about 300 pounds with black hair, a moustache and brown eyes. He has a possible tattoo of a teardrop near his right eye and a large tattoo on his right hand.

Police say the suspect was driving a large beige or gold four-door SUV with dark stripes on the sides.

The women who live in the area are frightened.

"We already have a lot of stuff going on we don't need, you know, to be worrying about some guy trying to come up to us and trying to harm us in any way," said Laura Guzman, an area resident. "Come up, like, with a knife and a gun, that's scary."

Resident Angela Liner says she has always felt safe walking around the area.

"I been here over 30 years and I've never heard of anything like that around here, really," said Liner.
