Rowe sues woman over TV interview

LOS ANGELES The lawsuit was filed against Rowe's friend, Rebecca White.

White says she received e-mails from Rowe in which Rowe purportedly stated:

"Do I want the kids? No. Does it look good for me to ask for them? Absolutely. Would Michael want Joe to have them? I think it would be the last thing that he would have wanted."

Rowe says that all the statements White attributes to her are false. She is suing White for defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

There were rumblings Friday that the parties were making progress toward a settlement in the custody saga over Michael Jackson's kids. However, the decision has been delayed, leaving 79-year-old Katherine Jackson as custodian until a hearing on August 3.

Questions of suitability have been raised because of Katherine Jackson's age. However, there are reports that Janet Jackson could step in for her at some point. At Jackson's memorial, Janet Jackson guarded the kids closely.

Debbie Rowe, the mother of the two eldest Jackson children, is the other contender for custody.

Judge Mitchell Beckloff will do what is in the best interest of the children and it is unlikely he will separate the siblings.

There is one report that Debbie Rowe primarily wants to keep the children away from the children's grandfather, Joe Jackson; the man Michael Jackson said overworked and abused him. Negotiations may be simply a matter of agreement to visitation rights.

Meanwhile, the L.A. County Coroner says it will be another two weeks before Michael Jackson's autopsy is complete.
