Suspects arrested in death of cop's son

LOS ANGELES Investigators say the victim, 21-year-old /*Stinson Ameer Brown*/, was at a party on the 4200 block of Don Tapia Place in the Crenshaw area Friday night. Detectives say Brown and his friends noticed a group people lingering outside when they left, so they drove back to the party to make sure other friends were OK.

After checking on his friends, Brown walked back to the vehicle parked down the street. At some point several people confronted him. One of the suspects then pulled out a gun and shot Brown multiple times.

Brown died about an hour later at the hospital.

The suspects ran and hid in a nearby yard, but were eventually caught by /*LAPD*/ officers. The officers also found a chrome .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun in the area that they believe was the murder weapon.

The victim is the only son of LAPD officer Stinson Brown, who is assigned to the Training Division and has also worked gang detail in the past. The elder Brown said his son was a promising athlete who hoped to pursue a career playing football. In a statement released by the LAPD Brown said he raised his son to be a "responsible and outstanding member of society."

Both juvenile suspects are being held without bail.
