SAN DIEGO, Calif. --
San Diego officials say they plan on asking a judge to lift an order giving the city 72 hours to remove a colony of federally protected harbor seals from a La Jolla cove called the Children's Pool. The city attorney says the request will be made Thursday and the city will appeal if the judge refuses.
Just hours after a judge ruled the seals must go, Governor Schwarzenegger Monday night signed a state bill giving San Diego power to allow the seal colony to remain.
Activists have waged a decade-long court battle over whether the cove should be reserved for humans or seals.
