WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. --
The city council recently decided to consider riding on the sidewalks an infraction when a bike lane is available, and that violators could be fined. The move comes after several complaints from pedestrians who have become startled by or involved in collisions with bike riders.
Deputies can now issue citations of $100 for the first infraction, $200 for the second and $250 for the third violation within one year of two prior infractions.
Bicyclists will still be allowed to ride on sidewalks when there is no designated bike lane on the street.
