Mother of 6 takes in late friend's kids

MONROVIA, Calif. Although they may not look alike, as far as Jackie Maruyama is concerned, all ten kids in her home are her children.

"It's crazy, it's loud. They're having fun," said Jackie. "They're destroying my house"

Jackie doesn't mind working hard for her late friend and neighbor Emily Taylor. Taylor died from complications after delivering her fourth child two weeks ago.

"It was horrible," said Jackie. "We're sitting here admiring her child one second, and the next second, I'm being told that she's gone."

Jackie took in Taylor's four kids, in addition to six of her own.

"I just couldn't bear to see them be thrown into the system. They just lost their mother," said Jackie. "Because I already have six children, I'm kind of used to chaos. And I think if I went from one to ten it would've been way more difficult than it has been."

Jackie and her fiance are trying to make ends meet and it has been hard. They have purchased some necessities, like extra beds, but the family is very thankful for all the help the community has offered up.

"Daily I have people stopping by dropping off diapers, food, making dinners for us, gift cards, clothes ... just, it's been amazing," said Jackie.

Jackie knows the charity won't last forever, but she knows somehow they will make it work.

"I don't know what the future holds. Right now, it's not in my hands. But, I'm going to fight for those kids and I just hope for the best," said Jackie.
