Hundreds protest plan to sell fairgrounds

COSTA MESA, Calif. The fairgrounds would reportedly be sold to a local government agency or nonprofit organization to make money for the cash-strapped state.

Many protestors held signs that read "Just say no 2 selling the fair" and "OC Fair not for sale." Some called the land a precious community resource.

The /*Orange County Board of Supervisors*/ has approved a resolution in favor of Schwarzenegger's proposal.

The Orange County Fair Board has also approved a resolution supporting such a sale as long as the land remains a fairgrounds and a place for larger events including concerts and car shows.

But for many vendors, the fair is their sole source of income and there are limited weekend swap meets for them to sell their wares.

The governor has reportedly estimated the property value to be between $96 million and $180 million.
