OCTA may look at ending bus service

August 11, 2009 8:12:41 AM PDT
Fewer people are riding the bus in Orange County, and that has one official questioning whether bus service is even necessary. According to the Orange County Register, weekday ridership dropped about 20 percent in June, compared with the same month last year.

The drop is being blamed on fare hikes, cuts in bus service and a rise in unemployment.

Orange County Transportation Authority board member and Supervisor John Moorlach says the OCTA should look at whether to even offer bus service.

If it's discontinued, the county would lose highway funding.
