Gunmen ambush Inglewood party, 5 shot

INGLEWOOD, Calif. The incident happened just before 1 a.m. at an apartment building on West 113th St. and Crenshaw Blvd. The party was packed with about 100 people when it's believed three suspects entered and started shooting.

Five people suffered gunshot wounds -- four women and one man were taken to hospitals for treatment. One of the victims is listed in critical condition. The other four are stable.

A sixth person was grazed by a gunshot.

The woman who lives at the house said she was celebrating her birthday when uninvited guests showed up.

"I was having a nice party with family and friends," said the resident who did not want to be identified. "Some guys came in and partied for a little while. They started doing gang activity. I asked them to leave and then they started shooting."

It was a chaotic and confusing situation for police and rescuers, who had a challenge finding those that needed help.

"People started coming up after we initially thought we had our patients, and other people started coming out of the woodwork who might have gotten hurt," said Battalion Chief Kelly Seyarto from the /*L.A. County Fire Department*/. "And so we had to provide some additional treatment for them."

Police are still looking for the gunmen, who escaped after the shooting.
