Arrest made in Anaheim attempted kidnap

ANAHEIM, Calif. Sheriff's officials say 26-year-old Alfredo Granados Canchola of Artesia was arrested in Santa Ana Monday afternoon.

Deputies said Canchola approached the girl around 3 p.m. Saturday behind an apartment complex on West Broadway in Anaheim. Investigators said the girl was on her scooter taking the trash out to a dumpster when the suspect pulled up in his car.

She told detectives that the man yelled out a name and asked if she knew the person. When she said 'no' the suspect drove to the end of the driveway and got out of the car, trying to convince the little girl to get in the car.

"He reached into his pocket, pulled out some cash, asked the young girl if she wanted some money to come inside the car and talk to him," said Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

The child was able to ride away on her scooter. The girl quickly told her father about the incident, and he managed to get a partial license plate as the man drove away in a 4-door maroon Lexus.

Investigators say the girl picked Canchola out of a sheriff's line-up.

They believe he may be connected to other similar cases, including one in Irvine.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's Department at (866) TIP-OCSD (847-6273).
