Neighbor killed when confronting burglars

SHADOW HILLS, Calif. Police said they are looking for as many as 10 suspects after the incident in the 9700 block of Sunland Boulevard near Wheatland Avenue at a 3-rental property about 10 p.m.

Witnesses said a group of men broke into the home, and moments later, the unassuming homeowner arrived, only to be blinded-sided by a pack of men who brutalized him, demanding money as they tied him up.

"It's unusual. It would indicate that they have a common source of information, and they came together for some reason. Normally you would see that in a gang," said LAPD Det. Pat Barron.

But Barron said the incident did not appear gang-related.

Another tenant, who is the victim's relative, heard the commotion and ran over to help. When he found his family member tied up, he tried to help, only to be shot to death.

Police believe as many as 10 suspects were involved in the burglary.

No one was arrested, and no suspect descriptions were available. The suspects were last seen driving off in a dark-colored pickup truck and a dark-colored SUV.

The surviving victim said he did not know his attackers.

Anyone with information is urged to call the LAPD at (818) 756-8861.
