Healthy diet billboard sparks controversy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. The billboards in Jacksonville, Florida show an overweight woman in a bathing suit and reads, "Save the Whales, Lose the Blubber, Go Vegetarian."

Critics say the animal rights group is implying that heavy women are whales. PETA says it is taking a provocative and humorous approach to encouraging people to adopt a healthy diet without meat.

"People are bombarded with ads for foods that make them fat and unhealthy and PETA's ad campaign is empowering for consumers because it highlights the fact that a vegetarian diet is the best way to fight the battle of the bulge," said Ashley Byrne, a PETA representative defending the billboards.
