Deadly dog flu strikes pets in 5 states

LOS ANGELES Veterinarians are on alert after canine influenza, or the H3N8 virus, killed one dog at a Fairfax County, Virginia animal shelter and sickened more than two dozen others. Other cases have been found in Colorado, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Vets say if your dog has recently been boarded and is coughing, sneezing or wheezing, you should go to your vet.

The dog flu does not spread to humans.
