AVILA BEACH, Calif. --A nuclear reactor in Central California is up and running again.Pacific Gas and Electric restarted the reactor Saturday night. The reactor at the Diablo Canyon Plant in Avila Beach was shut down a week ago because of a problem with a transformer.
Last August, a transformer problem in the same unit exploded and sparked an oil fire. As a result, the unit was shut down for 20 days.
Diablo Canyon produces about 2,300 megawatts of electricity, enough for three million homes.
