Teens beat man with steam iron, dowel

YUCAIPA, Calif. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says deputies were called to the group home on 5th Place in Yucaipa Saturday shortly before midnight.

When they got there, deputies found the victim bound and unconscious in a bedroom closet. He had been beaten with a steam iron and a wooden dowel.

The suspects were determined to be a 17-year-old resident of Oakland and a 16-year-old boy from Long Beach who investigators say is a known gang member. The two suspects were living at the group home as part of their probation.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department says the suspects stole the victim's car and money and fled the scene.

The Highway Patrol attempted to stop the suspects for a lane change violation, but they sped up instead, leading the CHP on a short pursuit on the 10 Freeway. Speeds reached up to 120 miles per hour during the chase.

The two suspects were eventually arrested in Fontana and were booked at San Bernardino Juvenile Hall for attempted murder.

The victim is still in critical condition with severe brain damage.
