LAX ranks 2nd in U.S. for on-time flights

LOS ANGELES The U.S. Department of Transportation ranked /*LAX*/ number two among the nation's 15 busiest airports in terms of fewest delays for passengers on arriving and departing domestic flights.

Between July 2008 and June 2009, domestic departures at LAX were on schedule 84 percent of the time, and 82 percent of arriving flights were on time.

It was the best 12-month performance at LAX since 2004.

Only Detroit's Metropolitan-Wayne County Airport, which has only 60 percent of LAX's passenger volume, outranked LAX in better overall on-time performance.

In 2008, LAX served 59.8 million passengers.
