Fire burns in Rancho Palos Verdes

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. The blaze, which broke out just before 8 p.m. Thursday around Ocean Trails Drive and Palos Verdes Drive, has burned at least 88 acres. There was no containment early Friday.

Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Rolling Hills residents on Portuguese Bend Road, Amber Sky Road, and Crest Road.

More than 300 firefighters from Los Angeles County, Los Angeles City, and Torrance fire departments are battling the flames, with help from five water-dropping helicopters.

At least one out-structured has been destroyed. It is unknown how many homes may have burned.

No injuries have been reported.

An evacuation center has been set up by the Red Cross at Peninsula High School, located at 27118 Silver Spur Road, Rolling Hills.

Residents can bring horses and large animals to Howlett Park at 25852 Hawthorne Blvd.

Crest Road from Crenshaw Boulevard to Portuguese Bend Road has been closed.
