Crews gain on Cottonwood fire

HEMET, Calif. The Cottonwood Fire charred about 2,409 acres, but officials said the blaze was 95 percent contained Sunday.

The fire was burning away from Idyllwild, approximately one mile east of Cranston and 10 miles east of Hemet in the San Jacinto Mountains.

The fire broke out Thursday afternoon along Highway 74. The highway was closed through Saturday but was reopened Sunday morning.

There are no reports of any structures damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
