Ben & Jerry's celebrate same sex marriage

VERMONT Vermont's new law allowing same-sex marriage took effect at midnight on Monday.

The Vermont-based ice cream maker is renaming the ice cream just for the month of September.

"The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction and something worth celebrating with peace, love and plenty of ice cream," said CEO Walt Freese.

The company has no plans to change the labels on "Chubby Hubby" pints sold in stores.

But it will serve "Hubby Hubby" sundaes in Vermont Scoop Shops through September. Vermont is one of five states that allow same-sex couples to marry.

Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa are the others.

New Hampshire's law takes effect January 1st.
