Man leads police on marathon pursuit

September 4, 2009 3:24:35 PM PDT
A Palmdale man led authorities on a marathon two-hour pursuit from Palmdale, all the way to downtown Los Angeles, then up through the San Fernando Valley, and back to Palmdale.Speeds during the pursuit reached 100 miles an hour, with some very dangerous moments on the freeway.

The suspect finally slowed down and surrendered at the Palmdale sheriff's station.

Officials identify him as Joseph Ward. The sheriff's department has several warrants for his arrest, including a domestic violence charge.

Officials say they got a call from Ward's girlfriend, asking for help.

Deputies spotted the car and ordered Ward to halt. Ward stopped long enough to let his girlfriend and her infant baby out of the car. At that point, the two hour chase was on.

CNS contributed to this report.
