Report: Airport police head steps down

LOS ANGELES The Los Angeles Times reports James Butts will resign after three years in the position. He is credited with greatly improving training and discipline within LAWA, which operates Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

There is no word on why he is resigning, but in a memo he says his position will not be filled. It will reportedly be absorbed by LAWA's chief of police.

Butts had previously served as Santa Monica's police chief for 15 years.
