SOUTH GATE, Calif. --A fire at a South Gate roofing company Thursday morning sent flames high into the air. At times, they were visible from the 710 Freeway.The fire started just after midnight in an asphalt storage tank. Investigators believe it started when workers were cutting hot metal to dismantle the tank.
One plant employee has a minor injury. He was taken to the hospital.
The fire was confined to the one tank, and Hazmat crews say there was no contamination to any part of the area.
