Angry grandma in standoff with SWAT

MIDDLETOWN, New York Police say Bertha Burrows thought new medication was poisoning her. She claimed people were stealing from her, and she was angry that her dog was taken away during a recent hospital stay.

Burrows locked herself in a bedroom with a 22-caliber rifle and threatened to shoot anyone who came in.

Despite the danger, neighbors were sympathetic to the 84-year-old woman's situation.

"That keeps you going, when you have a handicap and stuff like that," said neighbor Josie Coyle. "You look forward to having them sit on your lap. Her dog used to ride on her wheelchair with her and [was her] companion."

An investigator convinced Burrows to leave her apartment and she went quietly with officers.
