Council approves early retirement plan

LOS ANGELES The council voted 12-0 for the plan that also eliminated mandatory furloughs.

City officials and leaders of the 22,000-member Coalition of Los Angeles City Unions held marathon negotiations over the last three days.

On Thursday evening, the coalition agreed to additional concessions, potentially putting another $78 million back into the city's coffers.
